Happy New Year! We’re so excited for 2023 and we bet you are too. After all, there’s nothing like a brand new year, full of possibility, to get you excited about what’s to come. You can’t enjoy all the exciting moments if you’re not feeling your best, so take this opportunity to set simple, productive intentions to focus on your wellness for the next 365 days and beyond.

The idea of a New Year’s resolution can feel intimidating and hard to stick to, but if you re-frame it as an intention, you may find that your goals feel more achievable and realistic. (“Intend” is a softer word than “resolve,” after all.)

Take control of your schedule.

Sometimes it feels like the action never stops: social engagements, work deadlines, kids’ activities, and so much more. If your planner is packed with to-dos and you’re feeling the heat — not to mention the exhaustion — it may be time to take control of your schedule and see what’s really essential and what you can let slide. You shouldn’t feel like you have to do it all yourself; taking on too much can lead to stress, which can impact your sleep quality and your mood.

If there’s anything in your weekly schedule that you can streamline or designate to someone else, like planning meals, pet care, or household chores, consider doing so. Would hiring a dog walker make your life easier? Find a local college student or neighbor who can help. Are you taking on way too much at work and drowning in to-dos? Set up time with your boss to discuss your workload.

Spend more time with the people who matter most.

Wellness isn’t just about eating a healthy diet and working out regularly. Personal relationships are a huge part of how you feel! Filling your cup with quality time with friends and family lifts your spirits, and it has been shown that regular social interaction can help support cognition and memory, especially for older adults. This year, set an intention to prioritize your favorite people whenever possible; ask questions and listen to their answers, book a monthly dinner date, go for a family walk every night or pick up the phone and call your aunt who lives in another state.

Get moving.

“Exercise more” is one of the biggest resolutions people make each year, but it’s also one of the hardest to stick to. Instead of setting impossible goals and trying to hit the gym every day, be realistic about your workout habits. It’s OK if you’re not a marathon runner or heavy lifter! You can find a method of movement that works for you; the key is to find an activity you enjoy, whether that’s swimming, dance cardio, or spinning, and then make it a regular part of your routine. Walking counts, as does gardening and power-cleaning the house; instead of eating lunch at your desk, get up and go for a walk or do a quick yoga flow. Aim to move your body for a certain number of minutes per day; getting a smart watch may be just the thing you need to track (and hit) those goals.

Tap into your energy.

If you’re committed to conquering your schedule and finding time for exercise and self-care, you may need help replenishing your energy reserves to get started. Floradix® Iron + Herbs Liquid Supplement contains nutritional iron in a gentle-to-digest, easily absorbed formula with vitamin C, essential B complex vitamins, and herbal extracts to help you get it all done.*

Spend more time outside.

If you live in a super cold or super hot climate, it may not always be the most enticing experience, but regular time outside is good for the brain and the body. Even just a quick walk around the block or a few minutes in the backyard counts! You’ll get the vitamin D your body needs for immune and bone health from the sun, fresh air to wake up your senses, and a greater appreciation for the beauty of nature.

Sleep better.

None of these intentions are possible without a good night’s sleep! In 2023, resolve to make sleep a priority in any way you can to help your body reset and restore itself to take on the action tomorrow. Don’t be afraid to bring in a sound machine, hang blackout curtains or wear an eye mask if that helps you block out noise and light. Set firm bedtimes for your children and do the same for yourself. Everyone feels better when they’re sleeping well.
